Why she might be annoying:

She was oft confused with California native and fellow competitor Pat Costello.
After her father died she suffered from depression and was prone to anxiety attacks.
She abruptly quit bowling in 1988 to sell cars for eight years before becoming a transport driver for a medical center.
She entered one tournament in 1993 and came in 2nd place, but it was not enough to coax her out of retirement.
Asked why she didn't bowl after retiring, she stated bowling was her job, not a hobby.
She never addressed innuendo of her sexual orientation.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was left handed.
In 1976 she won seven events, including the Women's U.S. Open, setting a record for most titles earned in a year.
Her father died in 1977 of a heart attack watching her broadcast at a local bowling show.
She overcame her anxiety and depression to win three titles between 1979 and 1981.
Competitors, fans and friends described her as friendly, engaging and down-to-earth.
She was always ready and willing to help any local bowlers who asked her for tips or advice on how to improve their games.
