The Resume

    (December 7, 1989- )
    Born in Newport Beach, California
    Kyle Christian Hendricks
Pitcher for The Chicago Cubs (2014 - )
Played college baseball for The Dartmouth Big Green with Dartmouth College (2008-2011)
Selected by The Texas Rangers in the 8th round of the 2011 MLB Draft
Pitched 7.1 scoreless innings in Game 6 of the NLCS, sending the Cubs to their first World Series in over seventy years (Oct. 23, 2016)
Started the World Series Game 7 against the Cleveland Indians, marking their first World Series win in over a century (Nov. 2, 2016)

Why he might be annoying:

    He's a Duck Dynasty fan.
    He's a Roberto Benigni lookalike.
He was nicknamed 'The Professor' because of his Ivy League background.
Although the nickname was as much meant as a reference to Greg 'The Professor' Maddux (and had nothing to do with Gilligan's Island).
His first full season with the Chicago organization was after he was dealt at the non-waiver trade deadline from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Ryan Dempster (2012).
Cubs fans reportedly booed when he was pulled early in Game 7 by Joe Maddon, to be relieved by Jon Lester (inexplicable for him to get the hook, especially since they were leading 5-1).
Some sports pundits noted seeing a decline in his overall performance (specifically his fastball stats) during the season following the Cubs' World Series win, often choking and failing to 'earn a decision' over his opponents.

Why he might not be annoying:

He's active with several charities and hospitals, including the Anthony Rizzo Foundation for Cancer Research and Miller's Hospital for Children, in Long Beach.
He is one of the few former Ivy Leaguers to play in the Major Leagues.
He was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels, in 2008, but chose to attend Dartmouth, instead.
He has been with his fiancé since the beginning of his professional MLB career, in 2011.
He won the Cubs’ prestigious Chuck Stevens-Minor League Pitcher of the Year Award (2013).
He headed off the 2016 season's ERA (at 2.13), posting his best MLB season by winning 16 games against just 8 losses.
He was seen as an early frontrunner for the 2016 Cy Young Award, eventually losing to Max Scherzer and Rick Porcello.
He responded to the backlash about his being pulled early by saying: 'Hey, we won, right? That's all that matters .... I really just tell [fans] I was expecting it to be a short start going into it, which I was. You guys have heard it all before, but to hear it from fans sometimes, it gives you a little reassurance. It's good that they're on your side.'
His fiancé posted an adorable picture of the cat they had adopted from an animal shelter, urging their followers not to shop for their pets but to adopt from the local shelters which euthanize strays if they aren't adopted within a certain time frame.
