It changed its name to Bratislava, as a way to gain entrance to join Czechoslovakia.
It fell to the Nazis shortly after becoming an independent republic, which saw 15,000 Jewish residents exiled out of the city to concentration camps during the Holocaust.
It was predominantly ruled by communist regimes for the majority of the 20th century.
It has harsh windy conditions, along with harshly hot summers and cold humid winters.
It is located in both the warmest and driest region of the country.
It is prone to flooding in certain regions of the city.
It lost its identity as a multicultural city in the years following World War II.

Why Bratislava, Slovakia might not be annoying:

It was home to the first fortified settlement in 200 BC.
It is home to the historic Bratislava Castle, which was built between the 9th and 18th centuries.
It was considered a coronation city during the 1500's.
The Hungarian parliament assembly met here from the 17th century until the beginning of the Hungarian Reform Era.

It was the site of the candle demonstration, which served as a peaceful protest to counter the communist movement (March 25, 1988).
As it is located close to both Austria and Hungary, it is the only capital city in the world to border two sovereign states.
It serves as an integral hub center to the Slovak economy, as it is considered the political, cultural and economic engine of the country.
It is considered the third richest region in the European Union.
