The Resume

    (1989- )
Born in Liverpool, England, United Kingdom
    Formed by singer/guitarist/producer Ian Broudie
Recorded the albums 'Cloudcuckooland' (1990), 'Sense' (1992), 'Jollification' (1994), 'Dizzy Heights' (1996), 'Tilt' (1999), and 'Four Winds' (2009)
Recorded the singles 'Pure' (1989), 'All I Want' (1990), 'The Life of Riley' (1992), 'Lucky You' (1994), 'Change' (1995), 'Perfect' (1995), 'Ready or Not' (1996), 'Three Lions' (with David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, 1996), 'You Showed Me' (1997), and 'Three Lions '98' (1998)

Why they might be annoying:

The first album was actually a solo project with Broudie playing all the instruments.
After a touring band was assembled, the line-up changed frequently, with Broudie the only constant.
They were one-hit wonders in the US, where 'Pure' was their only Top 40 hit.
The band went on a six-year hiatus after their attempt to change their sound to electronica on 'Tilt' was a commercial failure.
Their name was based on a mishearing of a line in Prince's 'Raspberry Beret': 'Thunder drowns out what the lightning sees.'

Why they might not be annoying:

Broudie had produced Echo and the Bunnymen, the Fall, and Wall of Voodoo.
'Life of Riley' was adopted as the theme for the 'Goal of the Month' on the BBC's 'Match of the Day.'
Their football anthem 'Three Lions' is one of two songs to have hit #1 on the British singles chart four times for the same artist. (The other one being 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' by the various incarnations of Band Aid.)
'The Guardian' wrote that they 'provided the Britpop era some of its most jubilant yet affecting pop anthems.'
