Football Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He originally was a quarterback in college, before making the switch to a place kicker.
He spent the 1973 season out of football, before returning the following year.
Some football pundits felt his NFL MVP victory was a hollow one, as it occurred in a strike-shortened season.
His kicking accuracy tailed off considerably in the years following his MVP-winning season.
He was unceremoniously released by the Redskins mid-season, which was surprising given the fact he spent 12 years with the team.

Why he might not be annoying:

He holds the Lone Star conference records for most points in a game and most field goals recorded in a single season.
He was one of the last kickers to use the straight on method of kicking field goals.
He made 23 consecutive field goals (1981-82).
He is the first (and, through the end of the 2021 season, only) place kicker in NFL history to win the MVP award.
He earned a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Redskins (1982)
He left the Redskins (later Commanders) as the franchise's all-time leading scorer.
His sister, Pamela Moseley Carpenter, was raped and murdered by Johnny Paul Penry (October 25, 1979), three months after he was released from prison, having served two years of a five-year sentence for rape.
He advocated for the death penalty of his sister's killer, feeling the criminal justice system had been too lenient on him, which allowed him to kill again.
He owned two restaurants in the Capital region, prior to joining Five Guys as the company's director of franchising.
