Why he might be annoying:

He enrolled in the film school at Loyola Marymount University because it was the only one that would accept him in the middle of the semester.
His script for the 'Ticking Man' was hyped by being sent to studios attached to a ticking alarm clock. It sold for $1.2 million (1990), fell into development hell when proposed star Bruce Willis backed out, and -- 30 years later -- has yet to be made into a film.
He won a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Screenplay for 'The Postman.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for 'L.A. Confidential.'
He keeps his Oscar and Golden Raspberry on display next to each other as a reminder of 'the quixotic nature of Hollywood.'
He said, 'If you really want to make a great film, you have to take the risk that you're going to make a really bad film. If you make a safe film, it's never going to be too bad or too good.'
