The Resume

    Born in Edendale, California
Group of swimsuit clad starlets who appeared in many Mack Sennett comedies in the 1910's and 1920's.
Appeared in 'The Water Nymph' (1912), 'Fatty's Bathing Beauties' (1913), 'The Sea Nymph' (1914), 'The Pullman Bride' (1917) and 'All at Sea' (1917)

Why they might be annoying:

They were originally hired to attract media attention to Mack Sennett's newfound Keystone Studios (1912).
They were picked more for their looks than acting ability.
The earliest bathing beauties wore head scarves and stockings when they swam.
As with the Keystone Kops, few became famous in their own right.

Why they might not be annoying:

They were your great grandfather's Baywatch.
Their swimsuits were a few inches shorter than the accepted norm of the time.
They provided comedy as well as sex appeal to the films they appeared in.
A handful did become major stars, including Gloria Swanson (although she denied this later).
Keystone Studios received many angry letters claiming the bathing beauties were corrupting the public.
