Why she might be annoying:

    She was initially a member of the Liberal Party, before switching her political affiliation to the NDP.
    She was unable to guide the Nova Scotia NDP into government in four elections.
    As a federal leader, her party finished no higher than fourth place nationally.
    She was unable to garner strong support amongst the union leaders.
    She drew fire from NDP supporters for trying to pull the party more towards the centre.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was a social worker, prior to entering politics.
    At the age of 14, she advocated for attention to be addressed to Africville, a predominantly low income black neighborhood in Halifax.
    She is the first woman to lead a provincial wing of a major Canadian political party.
    She was credited with slowly turning around the fortunes of the federal New Democrats, at a time when the party was ripe with internal strife under former leader Audrey McLaughlin.
    She served for two more terms as a Member of Parliament, following her resignation as leader of the NDP.
    She endorsed Jack Layton as her successor as NDP leader, who in turn took the party to become to official opposition in a matter of years, prior to his death.
