Why he might be annoying:

    He didn't take up playing American football, until he attended Montana State University.
    He was unceremoniously released by the Chiefs, despite being one of the longest serving members on the team.
    He retired from active play one point short of 1,700 career points scored.
    His first game playing gridiron football is remembered for him putting an opposing player in a headlock, thinking it was a form of tackling.
    He didn't retire from the NFL until the age of 42.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He initially attended Montana State University in a skiing scholarship.
    He took up football by chance, after he was kicking a football and impressed the coaching staff with his ability to kick the long ball.
    He was grateful to Montana State football coach Jim Sweeney, for treating him as a true player, rather then a sideshow attraction.
    He was a member of the first Chiefs team that won the Super Bowl (1969).
    He is the first player to exclusively serve as a place kicker to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
