    Committed suicide following a recurrence of leukemia

Why he might be annoying:

    He held a long-running media feud with high-fat low-carb diet promoter Robert Atkins.
    His diet was so restrictive, 'L.A. Weekly' called it 'a dietary version of a Hanoi re-education camp.'
    He was criticized for making exaggerated claims, such as 'The human lifespan would be 100 to 120 if people would stay on the diet.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He made a fortune from inventions in electronics.
    He developed his diet after suffering severe angina in his 40s, and successfully reversed his heart disease.
    In several studies, his diet was found to be effective in treating diabetes and hypertension.
    The doctor who performed his autopsy said he had 'the arteries of a pre-adolescent boy.'
