He lost his 1968 presidential bid to Richard Milhous Nixon.
His campaign was damaged by a brainwashing comment he made concerning Vietnam.
He was a lobbyist for an aluminum company in Washington DC.
He was born in Mexico because his grandparents left the US due to the illegality of polygamy.
His son, Mitt Romney, won the 2008 Michigan GOP primary in part because of his legacy.
Why he might not be annoying
He was a politically moderate Republican.
He helped turn around American Motors by focusing on compact cars.
He encouraged everybody to donate their time through volunteering and community involvement.
He supported civil rights causes.
He passed away from a heart attack (1995).
