    Birth name was John Leroy Atwell
    Appeared in the films 'Don't Get Personal' (1920), 'Souls for Sale' (1923), 'The Harvester' (1936), 'Behind the Mike' (1937), 'The Fleet's In' (1942), 'People Are Funny' (1946), 'Abie's Irish Rose' (1946), and 'Where There's Life' (1947)
    Voice of Doc in 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' (1937)
    Appeared on Broadway in 'The Firefly' (1912) and 'Oh My Dear!' (1918-19)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was married and divorced three times.
    He made the change from dramatic actor to comedian when he nervously butchered a line in a play, drew a huge laugh, and was asked by the producers to do it again the next night.
    His schtick was stammering and transposing words in sentences.
    Rather than a comedian or a comic actor, he preferred to call himself a 'muddler.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served in the US Army during the Spanish-American War (1898).
    He sang in the choir of the San Carlo Opera Company.
    After retiring from the screen, he had a successful career in real estate.
