She relocated herself and Carol from Texas to Hollywood, California when Carol was very young.
She and Carol would steal toilet paper from public restrooms to bring home because they did not have a lot of money.
She died before ‘The Carol Burnett Show’ hit the airwaves.

Why she might not be annoying:

Carol’s trademark ear tug at the end of every episode was a signal to her grandmother telling her ‘I Love You.’
She took over Carol’s upbringing as Carol’s parents were divorced and alcoholics.
She and Carol lived in the low-income district of Hollywood.
While raising Carol, she took her to see movies which inspired Carol to start performing.
She did live long enough to see her granddaughter’s early success.
Her gravestone bore the word ‘Nanny,’ probably Carol’s nickname for her.
