The Resume

    (September 30, 1958-April 8, 1963)
TV series about a sharp shooting westerner trying to make it as a rancher while tangling with various bad guys and trying to raise his son
Starred Chuck Connors as Lucas McCain, Johnny Crawford as his son Mark, and Paul Fix as their friend, town marshal Micah Torrance
Recognizable for Connor's character carrying a rifle instead of a pistol and the show's dramatic opening scene

Why The Rifleman might be annoying:

Where did McCain find time to farm since almost every episode was spent fighting bad guys?
What would Freud do with a television show that featured a gigantic celibate man who constantly carried a high powered rifle, lived alone with his son, and whose only friend was an older male authority figure who also carried a gun but was only able to use it with difficulty?
There is no one correct answer to the question of how many shots are fired in the famous opening sequence as several versions of the sequence were used.
For the record, the actual 1892 Winchester rifle could only hold eleven rounds.
There was no final episode to wrap things up.
Most episodes ended predictably with Chuck Connors killing someone.

Why The Rifleman might not be annoying:

Connors and Crawford had excellent chemistry as father and son.
The show has inspired a drinking game similar to the 'Hi Bob!' drinking game inspired by the Bob Newhart Show; whenever Mark says, 'Paw!' you take a shot.
There is an awesome website dedicated to the show.
It had a hilarious moment, when Mark was asked if he had ever seen his father kill anyone he answered, 'You mean today?'
Connors' character is believed to have been the first widowed parent to be a regular on a TV series.
McCain was always shown trying to teach his son the importance of honesty, hard work and the importance of treating others with respect and the violence on his part was always in self-defense and there was no profanity or sex.
