Oddity

The Resume

    (circa 1998- )
    Self-proclaimed time traveler
Sent faxes to Art Bell's radio show (1998)
Posted on various computer bulletin boards (2000-01)
Claimed to have been sent from 2036 back to 1975 to retrieve an IBM 5100 computer needed to debug various legacy computer programs of his day
Stopped off in 1998 for a few years for personal reasons

Why he might be annoying:

    It was (probably) all BS.
In his faxes to Bell, he said the Y2K Bug would cause mass chaos and the government would impose martial law to keep order.
In his bulletin board posts, he said that CERN would discover the basis for time travel in 2001, the last Olympics would be held in 2004, and that the US presidential election of 2004 would start civil unrest ('a Waco-type event every month') that would erupt into full scale civil war by 2008.
Somehow, none of the events of his past ended up in our future.
He did say that the 'many worlds' model of quantum physics is correct, which means that our 2036 (when we reach it) will not be the 2036 he came from.
However, he claimed our universe and his were only 1-2% different.
Strangely, those 1-2% differences seem to preferentially effect the events he got specific about.

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite the string of failed predictions, some people still take his story seriously.
His statements about the IBM 5100's ability to emulate and debug mainframe systems were correct according to computer experts.
He claimed to have built his time machine in a '67 Corvette Sting Ray convertible, which is one of the few things cooler than building one in a DeLorean.
His story inspired a Japanese visual novel and anime, 'Steins;Gate.'
Asked why his Y2K statements failed to match reality, he explained that he intervened to prevent it from happening.
Changing Y2K could have affected a chain of events, explaining why the new US civil war never happened. (Or, of course, it could all be BS.)
He claimed he could time travel only between worlds that were a maximum of 2% different, so he may have stranded himself here for our benefit. (Or less idealistically, he may have decided the post-civil war, post-nuke war 2036 he left was so crappy that he did not want to go back.)
