The Resume

    (September 3, 2003- )
    Born in San Francisco, California
    Also known as Gu Ailing
    Freestyle skier
At the 2022 Winter Olympics won gold medals in big air and halfpipe and a silver medal in slopestyle

Why she might be annoying:

Although she was born in and trained in the US, she competed for China.
Her decision caused widespread controversy due to the political tensions between the US and China.
She said one of the reasons she competes for China is 'to unite people, promote common understanding, create communication, and forge friendship between nations,' although it seems to have had the opposite effect.
The cynic in us suspects her motive may have something to do with the $30 million she earned by endorsing 23 Chinese brands.
She supports Black Lives Matter but refuses to comment on human rights abuses in China.

Why she might not be annoying:

Unlike most examples of athletes changing their national affiliation, she is clearly talented enough to have made the US team.
She was the first freestyle skier to win three medals at a single Winter Olympics.
During the Covid-19 epidemic, she endured a man screaming obscenities at her and her grandmother while ranting about 'Asians infecting Americans.'
ESPN declared, 'Her telegenic beauty translates even when she's competing in a helmet and goggles.'
