The Resume

    (March 13, 1929-February 6, 2012)
    Born in Rochester, New York
Birth name is Joseph Peter Breck
Portrayed Doc Holliday on ‘Maverick’ (1961-62)
Portrayed Nick Barkley on The Big Valley (1965-69)
Acted in 'The Wild and the Innocent,' 'Portrait of a Mobster,' 'Lad, A Dog,' 'The Crawling Hand,' 'Shock Corridor,' and 'Benji'

Why he might be annoying:

His own show ‘Black Saddle’ hopped networks from NBC to ABC (and was ultimately canceled because it couldn’t compete with CBS and Person to Person).
During his whole time on The Big Valley, he looked like a Charlie Sheen doppelganger.
He disliked playing the studio head in ‘Jiminy Glick in Lalawood,’ saying ‘it was just a rush job. Everything's too fast now and you can't go bang-bang-bang and get a performance. They don't make good movies anymore.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the US Navy.
He reportedly had a photographic memory.
He was discovered by Robert Mitchum.
He was a longtime Barbara Stanwyck admirer as a teen and remained close with her both during and after 'The Big Valley.'
He left Hollywood and focused on theater both in the U.S. and Canada throughout the 1970s.
He also set up a full-time acting academy school, The Breck Academy, which ran for ten years.
He was able to draw his gun in 16/100th of a second, making his character Nick Barkley the fastest draw in television history.
His wife announced that he was suffering from the onset of dementia and would be unable to further respond to fan mail - although he still enjoyed reading them (June 2010).
