The Resume

    (February 13, 1933- )
    Born in Loutra Iraias, Greece
    Birth name was Constantinos Gavras
Directed 'Z' (1969), 'The Confession' (1970), 'State of Seige' (1972), 'Missing' (1982), 'Betrayed' (1988), 'Music Box' (1989), 'Mad City' (1997) and 'Amen' (2003)

Why he might be annoying:

He often pretentiously goes by the single name Costa-Gavras.
He was sued by US Ambassador to Chile Nathaniel Davis for libel over Davis's portrayal in 'Missing.'
'Amen' was controversial for alleging that Pope Pius XII knew about the Holocaust but failed to act.

Why he might not be annoying:

Since his father was accused of being a Communist, he was unable to go to college in Greece, and had to go to France instead.
He usually succeeds at combining a political message with making a gripping thriller.
Ambassador Davis's libel suit was dismissed.
He commented, 'When I did Z a lot of people said he's a Communist. And then I did The Confession, the Communists said he's a right-wing person.'
