Why he might be annoying:

He failed his tryout with FC Metz when he passed out during a breathing test.
Returning from the World Cup, he was jeered by French fans who held him responsible for the team's failure to progress past the first round (1978).
One of his favorite practical jokes was to set off firecrackers, then lie in the street and pretend to be dead.
He was criticized for his enthusiastic celebration of Juventus' victory over Liverpool at Heysel Stadium after 39 people died when a retaining wall collapsed (May 29, 1985).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was one of three people named European Footballer of the Year three times (1983-85).
He was named World Soccer Magazine's Manager of the Year after leading the French national team on a 19-match unbeaten run (1991).
He said he and the other players on the field were not aware of the magnitude of the disaster at Heysel Stadium.
