    Wrote the novels ‘The Kite Runner’ (2003), ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ (2007), and ‘And the Mountains Echoed’ (2013)

Why he might be annoying:

    He said he sometimes feels survivors guilt over having emigrated from Afghanistan before the Soviet invasion.
    He said he envies authors who can plot out their novels in advance, noting, ‘I end up in a lot of blind alleys and have to fumble around until I can find my way back.’
    Despite the success of ‘The Kite Runner,’ he said, ‘If I were given a red pen now and I went back, I’d take that thing apart.’

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a physician for ten years until the success of ‘The Kite Runner’ let him be a full-time writer.
    Publishers Weekly described him as ‘both charming and thoughtful in his personal appearances.’
    ’The Kite Runner’ was the first novel by an Afghanistan-born writer published in English.
    ’The Kite Runner’ was named the Penguin Reading Group Book of the Year for two consecutive years (2006-07).
    BBC News included ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ on its list of the 100 most inspiring novels (2019).
    He is a Goodwill Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
