The Resume

    (April 5, 1875-January 5, 1956)
    Born in Enghien-les-Bains, France
    Birth name was Jeanne Bourgeois
French music hall actress, dancer and singer
Frequent appearances at the Folies Bergere and Moulin Rouge
Recorded the signature song 'Mon Homme' (1916)
Appeared in several silent short films

Why she might be annoying:

She went by a pretentious single name (created by ramming together a friend's suggestion of 'Miss Tinguette').
    She had protruding front teeth.
She insured her legs for half a million francs.
She wore huge headdresses and insanely long trains, with some of her stage outfits weighing 40 to 50 pounds.

Why she might not be annoying:

In her heyday, she was the highest-paid female performer in the world.
Auguste Rodin wrote, 'If I had to personify the Muse of the Music Hall, I would give her your legs.'
Maurice Chevalier said, 'There have been greater comediennes, greater singers, greater dancers--but all in a single package, there has been only one Mistinguett.'
She observed, 'A kiss can be a comma, a question mark, or an exclamation point. That's basic grammar that every woman ought to know.'
