The Resume

    (circa 480 BC-406 BC)
    Born in Salamis, Greece
With Aeschylus and Sophocles one of the three great tragedians of ancient Athens
Wrote 'Alcestis,' 'Medea,' 'Hippolytus,' 'Electra,' 'The Trojan Women,' 'Orestes,' 'The Bacchae' and 'Iphigenia at Aulis'

Why he might be annoying:

Little is known of his life outside of his writing.
He wrote some 90 plays, but only 18 survived.
He won only four Dionysia competitions (two posthumously), compared to 13 for Aeschylus and 18 for Sophocles.
He reportedly left Athens for Macedonia bitter over his defeats.
His plays frequently relied on deus ex machina for endings.

Why he might not be annoying:

He used his plays to criticize Greek society and religion.
His characterizations are considered ahead of their time.
Sophocles said, 'I portray men as they ought to be, and Euripides portrays them as they are.'
