With Cy Coleman wrote songs for the Broadway musicals 'Sweet Charity' (1966) and 'Seesaw' (1973)

Why she might be annoying:

Asked how to become a songwriter, she replied, 'I suppose a good method is to arrange to be born into a theatrical family.'
She took her parents to the Cotton Club to see her first songs being performed and was mortified when the singer improvised bawdy lyrics to replace her original ones.
She was nervous about speaking and singing in public.
She said about writing songs, 'It's hard slave labor. Ask anyone who writes.'

She won an Oscar for Best Song for 'The Way You Look Tonight' (1936) and a Tony for Best Musical for 'Redhead' (1959).
She was the first woman inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1971).
Barack Obama alluded to her song 'Pick Yourself Up' in his first inaugural address (2009).
Betty Comden said, 'The wonderful thing about the way Dorothy wrote is that her lyrics were inventive without being tricky.'
