Hero

The Resume

    (1938- )
Created by Jerry Siegel (writer, 1914-96) and Joe Shuster (illustrator, 1914-92) as a comic book (1938)
Appeared in Comic books, books, magazines, movies, T.V. series, songs, Broadway shows and radio programs

Why he might be annoying:

    He is vulnerable to kryptonite.
    He is an alien.
    He can't see through lead.
He was portrayed by George Reeves on T.V., who committed suicide (1959).
He was portrayed in movies by Christopher Reeves, who fell off his horse and became a quadriplegic.
He wears a sissy outfit (blue tights, a yellow belt and a red cape).
His disguise is a pair of glasses frames.
Siegel and Shuster created 'Superman' in 1933, but the idea was rejected until 1938.
They sold the first story and the rights to DC for $130.
By 1946, they were making almost $100,000 year as employees of DC, but DC raked in millions.
DC did not compensate them for the new character, Superboy, so they sued.
They were fired from DC (1947).
After spending all their remaining money on lawyers and the lawsuit, they were forced to settle with DC.
They settled for $200,000, but lost any future rights to Superboy or Superman or associated characters (1948).
Siegel's wife begged Liebowitz of DC to give him a job by asking 'Do you really want to see in the newspaper-Creator of Superman Starves to Death?'
He was shamed into giving Siegel some writing assignments but without any credit (1958).
He wears his underwear over his tights.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is the fantasy of every bullied kid.
His powers include flying, super strength, super hearing, x-ray vision, speed and invulnerability.
Shuster and Siegal again went into court to get ownership of Superman back (1975).
The courts again sided with DC, but realizing that the character had made DC 100's of millions, they decided to give Shuster and Siegel a $35,000 pension for the rest of their lives and acknowledge them as creators.
It should be noted that DC sued others for copyright infringement of the Superman character and either settled or won.
His Kryptonian name Kal-el is Hebrew for 'voice of God.'
