Won the Australian Recording Industry Award for best world music album (1995)

She grew her hair so long that it reached her knee.
Some of her songs have New Age elements.
She led the biggest light protest against the 2008 Summer Olympics that took place in Tibet (August 7, 2008).

Her name means ‘Goddess of Song’ in Tibetan.
She was born in a labor camp.
She learned to sing traditional Tibetan music from her grandmother in the midst of possible torture if discovered.
She fled from Tibet by walking across the Himalayas after a political demonstration (1989).
