The Resume

    (July 15, 1947-March 7, 2013)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Birth name was Peter Brockbanks
Guitarist and founding member of Yes
Formed the bands Flash (1971-73) and Empire (1973-80)
Recorded the solo albums ‘Two Sides of Peter Banks’ (1973), ‘Instinct’ (1994), ‘Self-Contained’ (1995), and ‘Reduction’ (1997)

Why he might be annoying:

He was fired from Yes over his objection to adding brass and strings to their albums. (‘I thought it was a daft idea.’)
He turned down an offer to join Genesis after Anthony Philips left.
He performed in concert with Fragile, a Yes tribute band.
He was married and divorced twice.
He was sometimes confused with another Peter Banks, the keyboardist in After the Fire.

Why he might not be annoying:

His suggestion of ‘Yes’ for a band name beat out the options offered by Jon Anderson (‘Life’) and Chris Squire (‘World’).
He would end solos by throwing his guitar in the air and catching it.
His playing was admired by Steve Hackett and Pete Townshend.
Disc jockey/journalist Danny Baker called him an ‘architect of progressive music.’
