Musician

The Resume

    (June 27, 1942- )
    Born in Toronto, Canada
    Member of The Bells
    Went solo in 1971
    Recorded 'Music Box Dancer'

Why he might be annoying:

He is a U.S. one hit wonder.
He shares his name with both a British and an American actor.
He studied as a pre-med student, but failed academically.
He left The Bells just as their smash single 'Stay Awhile' was taking off.
He recorded 'Music Box Dancer' in 1974, but it didn't receive major airplay until 1978.
'Music Box Dancer' was the B-side of the 45 submitted to radio stations - none of the DJs liked the A-side.
His take on life is 'If you shoot for the stars, you might end up with a cloud. But if you only shoot for the clouds, you might end up sitting on your butt.' (which is philosophical drivel)

Why he might not be annoying:

He comes from a musical family - his mother was a pianist and his father an Irish tenor.
By the time he reached 17, both his parents were dead from cancer.
He was on his way to the Navy recruitment office when a friend talked him into taking the entrance exam at McGill University's music department, where he scored a whopping 98% and found his calling.
He said of his single, 'I could go into radio studios to do interviews and the switchboard was jammed, just jammed! We hit when the disco era had just died, and I guess I got lucky.'
'Music Box Dancer' was #1 in 26 countries, earned a Million-Airs Award from BMI for over a million radio plays, went gold by selling over six million units, and the sheet music for the song has sold in excess of three million copies.
He won two Juno Awards in 1980, one for Composer of the Year and one for Instrumental Artist of the Year, then won another one in 1981 for Instrumental Artist of the Year.
He emigrated from Canada to Vermont, where he taps trees to turn sap into maple syrup, and states, ' I consider myself a musician by hobby. I have so many interests in life.'
