Why he might be annoying:

He was uncomfortable with his screen image as the Latin lover and frequently took roles to try and contradict it.
He was overexposed as an actor, appearing in over 120 movies.
While separated from his wife, he had a child out of wedlock with Catherine Deneuve.
He said: 'I don't understand why these Americans have to suffer so much to identify with their characters. Me, I just get up there and act. It's great fun. There's no suffering in it.'
He chain smoked and drank profusely.

During World War II he was captured and sent to a Nazi prison camp.
He was married to the same woman for 48 years until his death.
He was described as modest and self-effacing.
He was one of the most in-demand actors in Europe.
He kept his pancreatic cancer a secret so he could continue working.
Regarding acting he said: 'They come for you in the morning in a limousine; they take you to the studio; they stick a pretty girl in your arms... They call that a profession? Come on!'
He said: 'I believe in nature, love, affection, friendship, my work and my friends. I love people and I love life. Perhaps that's why life has loved me in return. I think I've been a very lucky man.'
