Why he might be annoying:

He and Orson Welles had a love/hate relationship.
In his early days, he pretended to be an English gentleman, yet he was born in Romania.
His later career consisted of many projects that were beneath his talent.
One of these projects was a commercial for Wesson Oil.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was so believable in the role of the obnoxious, pompous and stodgy old law professor in 'Paper Chase,' that not only did he win the Oscar, but he also reprised the role on the critically acclaimed TV series.
He was the producer for the historic production of Marc Blitztein's 'Cradle Will Rock,' the only show that scared the government into sending out armed guards to try to stop the show from going on.
He found a late life career as an actor.
He won an Oscar for his first role at seventy-one.
He was a liberal minded individualist till the end of his life.
He co-wrote the screenplay to 'Citizen Kane,' but an argument with Welles resulted in his name being removed from the credits. It also ended their friendship.
His commercial for Smith-Barney brought that company world wide attention.
