The Resume

    (June 1, 1947-May 15, 1987)
    Born in Woodford, United Kingdom
    Royal Protection Squad officer
    Princess Diana's bodyguard (1984-86)
Transferred from his role as bodyguard following what was described as an 'inappropriate' relationship with Diana
Killed in a roadside motorbike accident in north-east London (1987)

Why he might be annoying:

The specific nature of his relationship with Diana remains unclear.
If it wasn't a casual flirtation - but a full-on 'affair' - he would have been married at the time.
The relationship only became public knowledge when Diana's former vocal coach released tapes of her detailing that she had been 'deeply in love with someone' in her work environment - although she never mentioned his name.
His fatal accident has since inspired numerous conspiracy theories that the Royal Family had him murdered over his closeness to Diana. An inquest into his death ruled it was an accident, however (his widow, as well as Andrew Morton, who conferred with Diana about it when she was alive, have publicly accepted the result).

Why he might not be annoying:

He left behind two children at the time of his death.
He was killed when the Suzuki motorbike he was riding as a passenger, driven by another officer, crashed into a Ford Fiesta driven by a 17-year-old.
His relationship with Diana was the subject of vicious gossip within the Royal family, resulting in his being removed from Royal duty completely a month after being transferred from protecting Diana.
Prince Charles casually informed her about his death moments before exiting a limousine at the Cannes Film Festival (she was forced to walk the Red Carpet despite being heartbroken).
To the end of her life, Diana remained convinced that he had been 'bumped off.'
Adding to the suspicion, when Diana arrived at the site where he was supposed to have been interred to lay flowers on his grave, she discovered that he had been cremated and his ashes scattered.
Diana called him 'the greatest friend I've ever had,' and the news of his death 'the biggest blow of my life.'
