    Best known for hosting the original British version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (1998-2013)
    Co-hosted the children's show 'Tiswas' (1974-81)
    Hosted Capital Radio's breakfast show (1987-2004)

Why he might be annoying:

    He turned down a scholarship to Oxford.
    While working as a teacher, for six months he lived in his mini-van on school grounds after walking out on his girlfriend and having no place to stay.
    When he decided on a career in TV, he sent stations letters declaring 'I am the face of the Seventies and this is your last chance to snap me up.'
    He has been married and divorced twice.
    He described his late 70s/early 80s lifestyle as '20 pints, four women and 60 cigarettes a day.'
    His second wife said he was so obsessed with fishing that he would come to bed still smelling of fish.
    He was fined £525 after being caught speeding twice in 21 minutes on the same stretch of road (2010).

    He is a fan of Monty Python.
    His brazen approach to getting a TV gig paid off when ATV hired him as a newsreader (1972).
    He gave up drinking and cigarettes.
    He set a British record by hosting 16 TV game shows for at least one season.
    He claimed the dry ice used to produce 'smoke' on 'Millionaire' caused him to develop asthma.
    He received a lifetime achievement award at the National Television Awards (2000).
    He received a special Sony Radio Award for his 'unique relationship with his listeners.' (2001)
    He was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his charity work (2004), which includes being a patron of Wildlife Aid, the homeless charity Centrepoint, the New School at West Heath for disadvantaged children, and the Phoenix Centre for children with special needs.
