Why he might be annoying:

    He failed to negotiate a compromise to allow both China and Taiwan to compete in the 1976 Summer Olympics.
    He complained about the United States leading a boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics to protest the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
    In his memoirs ‘My Olympic Years’ he put quotation marks around the word ‘invasion’ when describing the USSR’s actions.
    During his IOC tenure, interest in hosting the Olympics declined to the point that Lake Placid and Los Angeles won their bids by default.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a month old when his father was killed in battle during World War I.
    He was the president of the Footlights Dramatic Club at Cambridge.
    He was a war correspondent during the Sino-Japanese War.
    He took part in the Normandy landings during World War II.
    He started loosening the amateur-only restrictions on Olympic athletes.
    He sounded an early warning about performance-enhancing drugs in his memoirs (1983).
    He was married to Shelia Dunlop for 54 years.
