Why he might be annoying:

He has been married and divorced three times.
His second wife revealed that the births of their three children had been induced to avoid disrupting his golf schedule.
He was known for being aloof from other golfers, even when they were teammates for the Ryder Cup.
His former instructor David Leadbetter noted, 'He didn't go out to win friends and influence people. Very seldom does he call people by name. He was very difficult to get close to.'
He was described as a 'control freak' when, as captain of the European team for the 2008 Ryder Cup, he appointed only one vice-captain instead of the usual four or five.
While introducing the Ryder Cup team, he asked Graeme McDowell, 'Where do you come from again? Ireland or Northern Ireland?'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was known for his consistent play under pressure, commenting, 'If someone is going to beat me then I'm going to make sure they've worked for their victory.'
He was the most successful Ryder Cup player, having scored more points and played in more matches than any other player.
Gary Player said, 'He had a work ethic that was unbelievable.'
Despite his general aloofness, he became good friends with Greg Norman, starting after Norman's famous collapse in the 1996 Masters, when he hugged Norman and whispered 'Don't let the bastards [from the media] get you down.'
Golfer and BBC commentator Wayne Grady said about Faldo's career as a sportscaster, 'If ever a guy performed a 180-degree turnaround it was him. He's as much with charm now as he was without it then.'
