Why he might be annoying:

    He said of his marriage to photographer Diane Arbus, 'When Diane felt OK, I would be in the dumps, and when I would be exhilerated, she would be depressed.'
    In some films, his first name is spelled 'Alan.'
    He was offered a chance to become a regular cast member of M*A*S*H after Gary Burghoff left the show, but he refused to commit to being anything more than a guest star.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He gave Diane her first camera shortly after they married.
    He and Diane had a joint photo displayed at the 'Family of Man' exhibition (1955).
    He and Diane remained good friends after their divorce and he continued to manage her finances and let her use his darkroom.
