    Won Wimbledon (1967,1970-71), the US Open (1967,1973) and the Australian Open (1973,1975)
    Also won 17 Grand Slam doubles titles and two mixed doubles titles
    Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame (1986)
    Runs the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch and Tennis Academy in Texas

Why he might be annoying:

    He was nicknamed Newk.
    He missed Wimbledon in 1972-73 because of a dispute with the International Tennis Federation.
    He was George W. Bush's drinking companion on the night Bush got busted for DUI.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He and partner Tony Roche won a record 12 Grand Slam titles in men's doubles.
    He and Rod Laver were the only two players to win both Wimbledon and the US Open as amateurs and pros.
    He was named an Australian Living Treasure (1997).
