Fictional Character

The Resume

    (October 31, 1980- )
    Birth name is Jeremiah LeRoy
Wrote 'Sarah,' 'The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things' and 'Harold's End'
Exposed as nonexistent by 'The New York Times'--author Laura Albert wrote the books and hired her boyfriend's sister to impersonate 'J.T. Leroy' in public (2006)

Why he might be annoying:

He is camera-shy and often wears a wig and sometimes glasses in public (see picture).
After his mother abandoned him for good in San Francisco, he became a drug-abusing, street-hustling prostitute.
As a child, his mother used to dress him up like a girl to make him 'less threatening' to her boyfriend(s).
His novels contain lots of graphic details about child abuse, statutory rape, drug abuse, and child prostitution.
He titled his book 'Sarah,' after his mother.
    His nickname is Terminator (what?!).
He named his adopted son Thor.

Why he might not be annoying:

His novels are international best sellers.
As a child, he was abused in the worst way by his prostitute mother, her numerous boyfriends, and his strictly religious grandparents.
His drug-addled mother took him on an nightmarish road trip after uprooting him from his grandparents.
He credits his psychiatrist, Dr. Terence Owens, for saving his life.
His psychiatrist encouraged him to write about his childhood experiences as a form of therapy (hence the beginning of his career as an author).
His books are based on his awful childhood.
His fans include Madonna and the rock group Garbage.
He interviewed stars like Dave Grohl, Debbie Harry, John Waters and Sofia Coppola.
Although he avoids media, he appreciates his fans and answers their email whenever possible.
He said: 'I'm amazed by how many people come up to me and say, 'I don't have a creative bone in my body.' I'm just mortified, because to me, that's like saying, 'I love to molest small children.'
