Why they might be annoying:

They killed in cold blood as if the person was not real and just in the way.
They smoked cigars.
They both carried pistols.
They had a total disregard for the law, and were constantly stopped by officers for speeding and carrying their guns clearly in public.
They kept a scrapbook of their crimes as reported in newspapers and wanted posters.
Sometimes they would kidnap a victim and lead him/her to believe that he/she was going to be killed.
But they would find something humiliating for them to do and then just laugh and leave them stranded.

Why they might not be annoying:

They loved each other so strongly that either was willing to die than give the other one up.
