Why he might be annoying:

His sponsor is an alcoholic beverage.
When he first came into the sport, he feuded with rival drivers Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Busch.
While addressing the crowd during driver introductions before a race, he said 'Kyle Busch is an ass'.
He can be too aggressive at times and has sometimes wrecked other drivers in a race for their spot.
He turned down an opportunity to drive for the powerhouse Hendrick Motorsports to instead sign with the slumping Penske Racing.
He posted a picture from inside his car on Twitter during the 2012 Daytona 500, meaning that he actually had his iPhone in his car with him during the race.
He was fined later in the 2012 season for tweeting again during a race, even though the race was stopped.
While being interviewed by SportsCenter after winning the 2012 championship, he drank from a large novelty beer glass and appeared tipsy.

Why he might not be annoying:

He usually takes the high road when getting involved in a dispute with another driver.
He is one of the most visible drivers on Twitter.
He began his career driving underfunded racecars, and almost had to give up racing.
He celebrates his wins by doing donuts in his car with an American flag.
He is very down-to-earth and gracious to his fans.
He runs the Checkered Flag foundation, a charity designed to assist military veterans, first-responders, and their families.
His father, uncle, and older brother all raced in NASCAR.
He gave Dodge their last NASCAR Cup series championship before they left the sport.
