    He became a journeyman player after he left Pittsburgh.
    He had a failed run to be the tax collector of his hometown.
    He managed the Cardinals and the Reds to the World Series only to be swept by the Yankees (1928 and 1939).
    His managing tenure with the Braves was uneventful as he lost 666 overall games including a horrible 1935 season with 115 losses.
    He got in a taxi cab, telling the driver to take him to Schenley Hotel as the driver never heard of the place as he didn't realize he was in Detroit, Michigan instead of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (September 15, 1941).
    He named his son after himself.

    He used to sing in a choir in church.
    He was the first NL manager to manage three teams to win a pennant and also the first NL manager to win a World Series ring on two teams.
    He won a World Series ring as one of Lou Boudreau's coaches in Cleveland.
    He was the last man to manage Babe Ruth.
    He retired from his managing career with a win-loss record of 1896-1723.
    He was the namesake for the Pirates' spring training venue in Bradenton, Florida until it was renamed to LECOM Park.
