Why he might be annoying:

    He resigned as Governor one month after Alaska officially became a state.
    His decision was in part to run for one of the state's new U.S. Senate seats, a race which he lost to Ernest Gruening.
    He also made two attempts to be formally elected governor of Alaska - in 1962 and 1966 - but lost both bids to William Egan and Wally Hickel respectively.
    The New York Times summed up his political career as follows: 'Mr. Stepovich’s most memorable achievement in office was that he worked himself out of it.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the son of immigrants from Montenegro and Croatia.
    After serving in the Navy during World War II, he established a successful law practice in his hometown Fairbanks.
    He began his political career by winning three terms in the Alaska Territorial legislature.
    He was the last presidentially-appointed governor of Alaska as a non-state territory.
    His diplomacy was widely credited with building a consensus toward Alaska attaining statehood.
    His portrait appeared on the cover of Time magazine (June 9, 1958) recognizing his achievement.
    He and his wife of over fifty years had thirteen children together.
