Why he might be annoying:

    He spent two full seasons in the minor leagues, before returning to the Padres full-time three years after making his initial debut.
    Despite being drafted as a catcher, he never played the position at the major league level.
    He was rumored to be part of a proposed trade to the Twins that would have seen Rod Carew go the other way, the deal however fell through (1978).
    He never lived up to his draft billing.
    He sliced part of his finger with a hunting knife, which diminished his velocity and relegated him to bench duties for the remainder of his tenure with the Giants.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a the first player in the history of the Padres to be selected with the first overall pick.
    He was a versatile player, as he played the infield and outfield and served as a designated hitter.
    He is one of five players in major league history to record two pinch hit grand slams in a single season.
    He was a key contributor for the Giants during their NL West contending season (1978).
    He recovered from his hand injury and served as a solid contributor for the Tigers, prior to his retirement.
