    He was cut from his high school basketball team three times.
    He took up to 400 shots a day as a way to perfect his craft, after he was cut during his junior year of high school.
    He is largely ignored when the discussion of the NBA's all-time greats come up, despite the fact he was one of the league's earliest stars.
    He spent the first half of his career on a Royals team that was a perennial bottom feeder.
    His contributions to the Royals/Kings franchise went largely ignored after the last couple relocations.
    His perseverance paid off, as he made the high school basketball team in his senior year, and earned a scholarship to the University of Cincinnati.
    He spent his entire NBA career on the Royals franchise.
    His #27 was retired by both the Royals and Bearcats.
    He was one of the first players in NBA history to average 30 points per game in a season.
    He unselfishly became the legal guardian of his teammate, Maurice Stokes, following Stokes' life-altering accident.
    He organized a benefit game, with the proceeds going to help fund Stokes' care.
    His friendship and guardianship of Maurice Stokes was the subject of the 1973 film 'Maurie.'
    He worked as an executive in the food service industry in the years following his retirement from the NBA.
