U.S. Vice President

The Resume

    (November 22, 1868-November 7, 1967)
    Nickname was 'Cactus Jack'
    Admitted to the bar (1890)
    U.S. Representative from Texas (1903-1933)
Vice President of the United States under Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1933-1941)

Why he might be annoying:

He hated the vice presidency, saying the office was 'not worth a bucket of warm piss' and that his accepting the office was 'the worst damn fool mistake I ever made.'
He was cantankerous and at times very pissed off at being Vice President.
He was against deficit spending under a President who became one of the most legendary deficit spenders of all-time.
    He distrusted Wall Street.
He considered parts of the New Deal as being 'plain damn foolishness.'
He opposed a large majority of Roosevelt's proposals during his last two years in office.
He could have been President had he not differed with Roosevelt so much where he was removed from the ticket.
He tried gaining the nomination from Roosevelt in 1940 and failed miserably.
On his 95th birthday, he spoke to JFK on the phone and pledged his support in the 1964 Presidential Election as long as he was alive; later that day, Kennedy was assassinated.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was against the judge packing proposal Roosevelt had made.
He was skilled at navigating bills through the House of Representatives and the Senate.
He was a no-nonsense guy that had little patience with long-winded and flamboyant senators.
He did not always agree with Roosevelt, but always helped him get what he wanted done saying it was good politics and good patriotism.
He declined a radio station's offer to give a weekly fifteen-minute address at $1,500 each saying it was exploitative of his office.
He refused the accompaniment of the Secret Service saying, 'I don't want those constables protecting me. There is not anybody crazy enough to shoot a Vice-President.'
He knew how to predict the reactions of Congress to certain legislation and how to guide it in the right direction.
He lived to be the oldest former Vice President ever.
