    The crew was willing to let Mr. Straus get into a lifeboat, but he refused to leave before the other men.
    Ida refused to leave him, thus sealing both their fates.
    They spent lots of money traveling.

    They were married for over forty years and were devoted to each other.
    Ida threw her arms around Isidor's neck on the boat deck and said, 'We've been together for many years and we will die together.'
    They became a success in America in spite of anti-semitism.
    They donated lots of money to Jewish charities and for the needy.
    His refusal to enter a lifeboat was an act of bravery.
    His body was recovered from the wreckage; hers was never found.
