Vocalist

The Resume

    (February 3, 1943-February 1, 2018)
    Born in Fairfield, Alabama
Member of the Contours (1966-67) and the Temptations (1968-76,1980-84,1987-89)
Sang lead on the Temptations’ hits ‘Cloud Nine’ (1968), ‘I Can’t Get Next to You’ (1969), ‘Ball of Confusion’ (1970) and ‘Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone’ (1972)
With Siedah Garrett recorded the single ‘Don’t Look Any Further’ (1984)

Why he might be annoying:

Before being drafted into the Temptations to replace David Ruffin, he was trying to get out of his Motown contract so he could sign with Holland-Dozier-Holland’s new Invictus label.
In the late 60s, he simultaneously dated Aretha Franklin and her sister Erma Franklin.
He married and divorced singer Ruth Pointer.
’Don’t Look Any Further’ had one of the cheesiest-looking videos of all time.
He toured as Dennis Edwards & the Temptations until original Temptations member Otis Williams filed a legal challenge, resulting in a change of name to The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the son of a minister who refused to let him sing or listen to secular music at home.
He came to the notice of the Temptations when the Contours were their opening act on tour.
His joining with the Temptations ushered in their funkier ‘psychedelic soul’ era.
He was the only latter-day Temptation to be included alongside the mid-60s ‘Classic 5’ line-up when the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
