Why he might be annoying:

He was divorced.
He worked briefly as an insurance agent.
He became infatuated with Leni Riefenstahl during the 1936 Olympics.
After winning his gold medal, he grabbed Riefenstahl, ripped her blouse open, and kissed her breasts before the entire stadium.
The critical response to 'Tarzan's Revenge' was so negative that he never acted again.
One critic wrote: 'He heroically combines the facial qualities of Broadway's Burgess Meredith and Hollywood's Harpo Marx, but has the acting ability of neither.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He set two world records in track and field.
He had to jog three miles to school everyday, which sparked his love of running.
He served in the Navy during World War II, and was severely wounded.
He suffered serious psychological damage from his experiences in the war.
He was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (1969).
