The Resume

    (June 11, 1918-January 7, 2008)
    Born in San Francisco, California
Birth name was Edward Abraham Miller
Restaurant owner, liquor salesman, race track gambler and competitive eater
Dubbed 'world's greatest trencherman' by the Guinness Book of Records
Eating feats included 63 Dutch apple pies in one hour (1963), 27 two-pound chickens at a sitting (1963) and 324 ravioli at a sitting (1963)

Why he might be annoying:

He consumed 25,000 calories a day in his competitive years.
His peak waist measurement of 57 inches was only 10 inches less than his height.
To deal with his fluctuating weight, he had three suits: one for when he weighed around 250 pounds, one for 300 pounds and one for 350 pounds.
He was dropped from Guinness in the early 1990s when they removed most of the eating records.
He habitually added a decade to his age, with his initial obits claiming he died one year short of the century mark.
He suffered from diabetes and heart disease late in life. (What could possibly have caused that?)

Why he might not be annoying:

He won a bet by drinking a lion under the table.
He said he suffered indigestion only one time in his life -- in 1942 after eating 10 pounds of cheese crackers.
New York Times sports writer Robert Lipsyte named him one of the top 10 sportsmen of 1968.
He married a former Rose Bowl Princess.
His daughter Honey died in a car accident in the 70s.
After her death, he quit competitive eating and slimmed down to 170 pounds.
He said he regretted not having been able to take on either 19th century gourmand Diamond Jim Brady or 21st century hot dog champ Takeru Kobayashi.
