The Resume

    (December 19, 2016- )
    Airs on NBC
    Hosted by Chris Hardwick
Premise: a team of two contestants plays three rounds to earn money by dropping balls down a board into slots marked with differing dollar amounts and answering trivia questions (correct answers result in green balls adding money based on where they land, incorrect answers result in red balls that subtract money)
After three rounds of play, one contestant (who has been in a soundproof booth) decides to either sign a contract guaranteeing a minimum amount (the amount earned in round one, plus $20,000 for each question answered correctly in rounds two and three) or tear it up in favor of the team’s winnings at the end of round three

Why The Wall might be annoying:

Every review of the show has to make the following statement, so let’s get it out of the way: It is basically a super-sized version of Plinko from The Price Is Right.
Its catchphrase is ‘The Wall gives, and the Wall takes away.’
The second and third rounds both start with a ‘Super drop’ of green balls and end with a negative Super Drop of a matching number of red balls, so dumb luck can wipe out a team’s winnings, no matter how well they answered the questions.
The show always takes time out for the contestant not in the soundproof booth to plead with their partner to make the right decision with the contract, even though it has no effect on the game since the partner (have we mentioned this?) is in a soundproof booth.
The contestants revealing if they signed or tore up the contract seem to have been given the instructions, ‘Try to fake everyone out by making it sound as if you did the opposite of your actual choice.’
Plenty of contestants have walked off with nothing after taking a gamble and tearing up the contract.

Why The Wall might not be annoying:

LeBron James is one of the executive producers. (No, we don’t know why either.)
The wall doubles as a video screen.
Hardwick seems genuinely excited when teams win big bucks.
In each season (so far), a couple of teams have walked off with over a million dollars.
Vulture described it as ‘absurd, yet undeniably diverting.’
