The Resume

    (1885-September 1, 1914)
    Born in United States
    Last known surviving passenger pigeon
After death was frozen, skinned and mounted by the Smithsonian Institution
    On display from 1956-1999

Why she might be annoying:

She wasn't the last wild passenger pigeon as she was born at the Cincinnati Zoo.
    She refused to mate.
The Smithsonian's decision to archive her remains led to overwrought claims of a second extinction.
She flew first class, escorted by a flight attendant, to San Diego and Cincinnati in the 1960s and 1970s.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was named after Martha Washington.
She was the last of a species driven to extinction by over-hunting within decades.
She was a popular tourist attraction while alive.
She greatly raised awareness of the need for natural conservation.
The Cincinnati Zoo honored her with a statue.
