U.S. Governor

The Resume

    (September 14, 1978- )
    Born in Jacksonville, Florida
    Ronald Dion DeSantis
    Represented Florida's 6th district (2013-18)
Founding member of the House Freedom Caucus (2015)
Elected Governor of Florida, defeating challenger Andrew Gillum in a hotly-contested race (2018)
    Republican

Why he might be annoying:

His campaign was largely defined by national issues, rather than state ones.
He sparked widespread outrage for telling his supporters not to 'monkey this up' a day after winning the gubernatorial primary.
The remark was greeted as - at worst - a racist dog whistle and - at best - a sign that he was politically tone deaf. (His opponent, Gillum, is black.)
He promoted conspiracy theories that the migrant 'caravan' was being orchestrated, but declined to say 'by whom' when pressed on it (probably George Soros).
His gubernatorial win was tainted by accusations of voter suppression and/or fraud (depending on what side of the aisle you ask). The win only became official after an electronic recount.
His hard-line stance opposing the Mueller investigation was credited with helping him to secure President Trump's endorsement.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is a devout Roman Catholic.
He is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School.
He is a Navy veteran who served as a military lawyer in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay.
He had to drop his bid to run for the U.S. Senate in 2016 after Marco Rubio waffled on his promise not to run for reelection (losing your own state in a Presidential primary can have that effect though).
He criticized Maxine Waters for calling on people to openly harass Trump supporters and officials in public venues.
He weathered the storm following his primary win cannily, climbing up from low poll numbers and even agreeing to a CNN hosted debate.
He had the foresight to be tight-lipped and reserved during the electronic recount (which is more than could be said for the Senator-elect or the man who endorsed them both).
